TCU NOTABLES:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (KU, 25-15): Kansas made five blocks on the first 15 points to jump in front, 10-5. Kansas broke the set open with an 8-0 scoring run to make it 18-7, before holding on to win the set by 10. Dani Dennison was all over the back row, making eight digs, but eight KU blocks doomed the Frogs.
Set 2 (KU, 25-18): Julia Adams made four straight kills early in the second set to erase a hot start from Kansas and tie the set, 6-6. But a 10-4 Kansas run put the Jayhawks in front for good, 19-13. TCU cut the lead to just four points (17-21) thanks to a block from Hall and Nichols, but the mid-set scoring run was too much to overcome and KU took the set by seven points. Adams finished the set with seven kills, putting her in double digits for the match, while Dennison added four digs to bring her total to 12 through two sets.
Set 3 (TCU, 25-23): The outlook was bleak for TCU as Kansas led, 20-16, late in the set, but TCU upped its level at the service line, with Hall and Nichols sending down aces to send TCU on a 9-3 run to close out the set. Nichols distributed the ball very well on offense with four Frogs contributing kills in the run, led by two from Adams. By the end of the set, TCU had five aces, one each from Hall, Dennison, Nalls, Nichols and Wehrstein to help overcome Kansas and force a fourth set. The defense was at an all-time high from both teams as TCU and KU combined for 42 digs in the third. Dennison, of course, led TCU with seven, bringing her overall match total to 19 through three sets.
Set 4 (KU, 25-20): Kansas opened up the fourth on a 6-1 run as the KU block continued to wreak havoc on the TCU attack. The Frogs battled to get within one point, 12-13, but another KU scoring run pushed the lead to 14-21 and KU claimed the set by five points. Adams tacked on another five kills while Nalls took over the main defensive duties, recording seven digs as Kansas adjusted to try and hit the ball away from Dennison on the back line.
UP NEXT:
The Horned Frogs (8-16, 2-12) return to Schollmaier Arena for senior weekend against West Virginia (17-9, 6-8). TCU will battle WVU on Friday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m.
