The Frogs celebrate Senior Day as they host the Mustangs
FORT WORTH – Behind a stellar start to the season, the TCU swimming & diving teams are looking to continue momentum at their last home meet of the season against SMU on Friday.
The women's session will begin at 2 p.m. and the men's meet will start at 6 p.m. Seniors from both teams will be honored before their respective sessions. The celebrations will begin approximately 15-20 minutes prior to each meet.
Last season, the women's program defeated SMU for the first time in program history as they beat the Mustangs 175-120. Ashleen O'Brien and Mary Jania both won two events, and Emma Hultquist took first in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
On the men's side, Dusan Babic pulled away with wins in the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Piotr Sadlowski notched three individual wins as he won the 100 butterfly and the 50 and 100 freestyle.
SMU kicked off the 2021-22 season at the SMU Classic where they hosted Michigan, Louisville, Missouri, Miami, Arizona and Texas A&M. The Mustangs finished fifth overall.
SMU's women's team received votes in the preseason CSCAA Division I rankings.
Last Time Out
The Frogs excelled at the USC Invitational on Oct. 15-16. Geremia Freri took home three individual wins in the 500 and 1650 freestyle, as well as the 400 IM. He notched NCAA B cuts in each event and also broke the school record in the 500 freestyle, 1650 freestyle and his 1000-yard split was also good for a school record.
Freri currently has the No. 2 times in the country in the 500 freestyle (4:17.71) and the 1650 freestyle (15:04.35).
Sadlowski recorded his first B cut of the season in the 100 butterfly and Janis Silins secured his first two B cuts of the season in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. On the women's side, Rylee Moore notched her first collegiate NCAA B cut in the 100 backstroke.
Overall, the Frogs finished third overall at the invitational with a team score of 1098 points.
Big 12 Awards
So far this season, three athletes have won Big 12 weekly awards. Olivia Rhodes won Newcomer of the Week while David Ekdahl won Newcomer of the Week and Diver of the Week on Oct. 6. Freri has continuously won Big 12 awards as he is a two-time Swimmer of the Week (Oct. 6, Oct. 20) and Newcomer of the Week (Oct. 13).
