
TCU Kicks Off 2021 Season with Two Wins

Eight freshmen earn points in collegiate debut
FORT WORTH – The eighth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs opened its 2021 season with a pair of wins, downing South Dakota State 18-1 and UT Martin 15-4, Thursday afternoon at Diamond Creek Ranch.

THE RUNDOWN vs. SDSU
TCU dominated in every event in its first meet, sweeping Fences, Horsemanship and Reining.
In Fences, Isabella Baxter led the group, scoring an 87 on Callisto for the MOP. She secured the MOP in Fences in TCU's first meet for the third consecutive season. Sydnie Young and Hannah Loeffelbein earned wins in their first collegiate starts.
On the Flat side, senior Alex Beneson won the MOP with an 84-83 win on Caprilli. Ashleigh Scully also tallied an impressive 83-75 win on Mo to earn the second of three Horned Frog points.
After losing six riders on the Western side, the Frogs swept both against SDSU. Shea Graham, Giorgia Medows and Mattie Dukes picked up points in both Horsemanship and Reining. Maddy Buchanan and Anna Hauter picked up the MOPs in Reining a Horsemanship, respectively. Bella Andrews gathered the fifth Reining point and Jessica McAllister grabbed a 74 in her collegiate debut.
THE RUNDOWN vs. UT MARTIN
TCU cleaned up the second half of the day with a 15-3 win against the Skyhawks, winning three MOPs.
In Fences, the defending Big 12 Fences Rider of the Year Raegan Rast collected the MOP with an 85-68 win on Elle. Sydney Berube won her point making her collegiate debut winning 80-76 on Fats. TCU blanked the Skyhawks in the event winning 4-0.
In Flat, Jacey Albaugh and Ashleigh Scully set the Frogs up for success with a pair of 88s. Alex Beneson followed closely behind with an 87 on Mabel but fell to Mahalia Alascio who earned an 89 and an MOP, but the Frogs still won the event 4-1.
The Horsemanship unit won the event 4-1 as Shea Graham took home the MOP after a 75.5 ride on Flash. Mattie Dukes and Anna Hauter closely followed with scores of 75 and 74, respectively.
In Reining TCU won 3-2, Mattie Dukes earned the MOP with a 72-69 win on Roxie. Bella Andrews and Shea Graham earned the other two TCU points.
NOTES
- TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield earned her 50th win as head coach of the Frogs.
- TCU hosted a doubleheader for the first time in program history.
