Rifle Heads To Alaska For Top-5 Match-Up

Team will shoot two matches over the weekend
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend against the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks. The Horned Frogs are currently ranked No. 4 in the latest CRCA poll, while the Nanooks sit just behind at No. 5.
TCU had a strong showing in its first matches of the 2020-21 season, picking up a pair of victories last weekend against Ohio State and Akron. The Frogs fired team aggregate scores of 4,703 at Ohio State and 4,716 against Akron.
On the season, TCU sits second nationally in both disciplines, averaging a 2,371.5 in air rifle and a 2,338.0 in smallbore. The Frogs aggregate average also sits second nationally at 4,709.5.
Individually, the Horned Frogs boast two of the top 10 shooters in both disciplines. Stephanie Grundsoee leads the squad in both air rifle and smallbore. She sits second nationally averaging a 598 in air rifle and third nationally with a 590 average in smallbore. Kristen Hemphill sits seventh in smallbore (587.5) and eighth in air rifle (593.0).
Also serving as counters in both matches last weekend were Elizabeth Marsh (591.5 air rifle; 580.5 smallbore), Abigail Gordon (587 air rifle; 580 smallbore) and Grace Taschuk (587 air rifle; 573.5 smallbore).
The Nanooks will be shooting their match in 2021. On the year, they have fired four matches and they rank fourth nationally with an aggregate average of 4,696.25. Their last action came on Nov. 19 at Georgia Southern in Oxford, Miss. Alaska-Fairbanks fired a 4,693 team score in the victory. Kellen McAferty is the top aggregate shooter for the Nanooks. His season average of 1,174.5 ranks 14th nationally.
Both matches this weekend are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
