Horned Frogs boast top five shooters in the match

FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team continued its dominant start to the season, defeating Akron 4,716-4,670 Sunday in Akron, Ohio. The Horned Frogs' aggregate score is the fourth-highest fired this season in the NCAA.

The Frogs fired season-highs in both disciplines, posting a 2,340 in smallbore and a 2,376 in air rifle. The air rifle score is the second-highest in the country this season, while the smallbore score is tied for fifth in the NCAA.

TCU boasted the top five shooters in the match. For the second match in a row, Stephanie Grundsoee paced all shooters with an aggregate score of 1,186. Kristen Hemphill turned in a second place finish with an 1,182 followed by Elizabeth Marsh (1,175), Nina Schuett (1,172) and Abigail Gordon (1,170).

Grundsoee's career-high 599 in air rifle topped the field as TCU had the top four scores in the discipline. Hemphill fired a 593, while Marsh and Taschuk shot a 592. Gordon finished sixth with a 589. While not factoring in the team score, freshman Nina Schuett matched her career-high with a 587 and Stephanie Allan turned in a 585.

Hemphill claimed the top spot in smallbore, firing a season-high 589. Grundsoee sat second with a 587 and Marsh rounded out the top four with a 583. Gordon turned in a seventh-place finish with a 581. Schuett posted a career-high 585 to finish third among all shooters.

TCU returns to the range on Friday, Jan. 15 in Alaska as it takes on the Nanooks. The team will shoot two matches against Alaska-Fairbanks, completing the trip with a match on Jan. 17.
