Junior Berklie Baker’s career-high dig performance not enough for TCU.
FORT WORTH -- TCU volleyball (5-7, 0-2 Big 12) couldn't solve Kansas State Saturday afternoon inside The Rickel, losing 3-1. Junior libero Berklie Baker set a career high in digs, with 23, but 18.0 blocks from the Wildcats swayed the match in their favor.
"First of all, I'd like to thank the fans for coming out and supporting with another sellout," head coach Jill Kramer said. "I thought our group came out really strong. We did really well on offense in the first set. But from that point on, our offense struggled. K-State did a great job at the net but I didn't feel like we should have struggled that much. We did a good job in that first set but we need to put it together for longer."
TCU NOTABLES:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (TCU, 25-15): Invigorated by yet another sold out home environment, TCU showcased a crisp and deadly offensive attack in the opening set, led by Clark and Audrey Nalls. The Frogs posted 16 kills in the opening frame, seven from Clark and five from Nalls. As a team, TCU hit .375, its best first set hitting percentage of the season.
Set 2 (KSU, 25-19): The Wildcats adjusted to the TCU attack in the second set, finishing with seven blocks as a team. The momentum swayed throughout the set, resulting in a 15-15 tie, but K-State had the last run to take the set by six points. Waggle emerged in the second, leading the team with four kills.
Set 3 (KSU, 25-14): The K-State blockers continued to shine in the third, amassing eight blocks as a team. That kept the Horned Frog offense at bay, giving KSU the set.
Set 4 (KSU, 25-23): TCU came out of the gates strong, claiming an 7-4 lead off three blocks, two by the hands of Clark and Afedo Manyang. But KSU responded with an 11-3 run to seize control of the set. The Frogs defended three match points to make it a 24-23 deficit, but the Wildcats took the next point to cement the loss.
UP NEXT:
TCU will hope to bounce back in front of an already sold out home crowd when the Horned Frogs welcome Texas to The Rickel on Wednesday night. First serve is set for 8:00 p.m. (CT) and will be televised on ESPNU.
