Frogs show strong in preseason matchup
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU equestrian dominated all aspects of its preseason scrimmage, taking down Texas Tech 20-0 at Diamond Creek Ranch. The Frogs blanked an opponent for a full meet for the first time in program history.
DIRECTOR OF EQUESTRIAN HALEY SCHOOLFIELD
"It was a very solid start for us. Today was a good way to test ourselves and see where we can get better and where we are strong. I saw great rides out of all of our freshmen and I know they will build off that into great TCU careers. Some of our returners had rides to be proud of and it showed how they have grown as riders and competitors over the years. We are excited to face South Dakota State next week and look forward to the challenge they will bring."
THE RUNDOWN
The Frogs began the day in Jumper Seat and Fences. TCU seniors Misty Redd and Courtney May led the Frogs to the 5-0 sweep with Redd winning 86-68 on Will, good enough for the Most Outstanding Performer honors. Courtney May logged another win, 79-65, and is still undefeated in competition. Freshman Olivia Parr got her first taste of collegiate equestrian, taking home a 75-67 win on Mabel.
The focus then shifted over to Reining where four freshmen hopped in the saddle for the first time as Horned Frogs. Maddy Buchanan and Kaitlyn Baker impressed, scoring 71.5 and 72 respectively. Buchanan took home the MOP in Reining.
Horsemanship kicked off the second half festivities in the outdoor arena. Four of the five Frogs totaled scores of 72 or more, with Mattie Dukes, Alexis Cook and Maddy Buchanan scoring 73, 73.5 and 72, respectively. Senior Drew Rogers was the high scorer for the Frogs, taking a 74-71 matchup on Jack, and winner of the MOP.
