Frogs Finish Fifth at Carmel Cup

TCU plays its best round on Sunday
CARMEL, Calif. – Five Horned Frogs shot par or better on Sunday as the TCU men's golf team finished fifth the Carmel Cup, held at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
After an 18-stroke improvement from the first to second round, TCU shot 8-under 352, its best of the tournament. The Frogs finished even-par 1080 for the tournament, three strokes better than No. 4 Oklahoma State and nine better than No. 5 Vanderbilt. The top five scores on each team accounted for scoring.
Sophomore Justin Gums repeated his round from Saturday and shot 4-under 68 to finish tied for 17th place. He had five birdies on the front nine to shoot 5-under 31. Gums led the Horned Frogs, along with freshman Maeo Fernández de Oliveira, who shot 2-under 70 on Sunday. Both shot 2-under 214 for the tournament.
Freshman Aymeric Laussot finished tied for 23rd place with a score of even-par 216. Laussot shot even-par 72 on Sunday.
Junior Thomas Allkins finished tied for 29th place with a score of 3-over 219. The Texas Tech transfer was 4-under par through his first six holes on Sunday after stringing together four-straight birdies. Allkins finished the round even-par 72.
Rounding out the scoring for TCU was junior Trevor Brown, who finished 42nd with a score of 10-over 226 after shooting his best round of the tournament, 2-uner 70.
The Frogs will next be in action Sept. 16-17 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational.
