TCU Moves Up at Carmel Cup

Frogs begin round three at 9 a.m. Sunday
CARMEL, Calif. – A big improvement in round two on Saturday has the TCU men's golf team in a tie for fifth place at the Carmel Cup, held at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The Horned Frogs moved up three places from Friday's opening round after an improvement of 18 strokes. After shooting 5-under 355, TCU is tied with Oklahoma State at 8-over 728 after two rounds. No. 7 ranked Oklahoma (-21) leads the tournament.
Junior Thomas Allkins had one of the best rounds of the day. The transfer from Texas Tech was 1-over through three holes and then played 6-under for the remaining 15 holes. Allkins shot 5-under 67, 13 strokes better than round one and is tied for 29th place, an improvement of 15 places.
Sophomore Justin Gums also had big improvement as he moved up 13 places and is tied for 25th place after shooting a career-best 4-under 68. Assisting with a 10-stroke improvement from Friday was an eagle on the par 5, No. 2 hole.
Freshmen Mateo Fernández de Oliveira and Aymeric Laussot continue to lead the Frogs after shooting 1-over 73. The two newcomers are tied for 18th place at even-par 144.
The Frogs will begin the final round at 9 p.m. CT on Sunday.
