TCU Volleyball opens the season against High Point, Lipscomb and Villanova
FORT WORTH -- The 2019 season begins with three matches in three days for TCU volleyball as the Horned Frogs host High Point, Lipscomb and Villanova in the Cowtown Classic tournament.
Tournament Quick Hits
-Eight Frogs will make their collegiate debuts for TCU this weekend as the fifth-best recruiting class in the nation makes its much-anticipated regular season debut.
-One such celebrated freshman, Audrey Nalls, will play in her first collegiate match after being named preseason Big 12 freshman of the year earlier this summer. She will be leaned upon for her offensive output throughout the 2019 campaign.
-Head coach Jill Kramer has enjoyed plenty of success in home, non-conference matches, where she holds a 16-2 record in four seasons, including a current 10-match win streak dating back to September 8, 2017.
-Sophomore RS Katie Clark returns to The Rickel after spending a part of the summer playing for the U.S. Junior Women's National Team. She became the first Frog in program history to earn the honor of representing the United States in international play after she delivered 2.37 kills-per-set in her freshman campaign.
-Libero Berklie Baker takes the court for her junior season after securing a career-best 327 digs in 2018.
-The Frogs will be facing some new opponents this weekend. This will be the first-ever meeting between TCU and Villanova, while the Frogs duel with High Point for just the second time and with Lipscomb for the third instance in program history. TCU is a combined 3-0 against this weekend's opponents with the most recent matchup coming back in 2014 against High Point, a 3-0 TCU victory.
Scouting the Opponent: High Point
-HPU is coming off its third-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as the champions of the Big South Conference.
-The Panthers finished 2018 with a 21-10 record, their fourth straight 20+ win season.
-They come into this weekend as a young team, with 16 underclassmen on the roster hoping to replace one of the programs most successful senior classes.
-Sophomore OH Madison Smith will be a player to watch. She finished last season second on the team with 217 kills on .246 hitting.
-TCU leads the all-time series with High Point; 1-0.
Scouting the Opponent: Lipscomb
-LU is hoping for a return to championship form in 2019 as the team finished third in the Atlantic Sun Conference last season (18-12) – Lipscomb has won two of the last four ASUN titles.
-The Bisons will have to replace two-time conference player of the year, Carlyle Nusbaum, who led the team in kills each of the last three seasons.
-They look to junior OH Megan Kuper to take hold of the offense. She finished second on the team last season with 290 kills.
-Setter Morgan Elmore led the team with over 1,000 assists in 2018 – 1,080.
-LU fell to Tennessee Tech, 3-2, in its lone preseason exhibition.
-TCU leads the all-time series with Lipscomb; 2-0.
Scouting the Opponent: Villanova
-Villanova delivered a 17-14 record, 10-8 in Big East play, last season.
-They return four 200+ kill attackers from last year's team, including 2018 kills leader Clare Delaplane (293).
-Setter Emma Decker returns for her senior year after notching her third 1,000+ assist season.
-This is the first-ever meeting between TCU and Villanova
Clear Bag Policy
Only the following items will be permitted upon entrance into TCU athletics facilities:
-Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches.
-One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
-One unopened bottle of water.
-Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the venue with one of the clear plastic bags.
-The Small clutch bags must be approximately the size of a hand.
-Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at stadium/arena gates.
-Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags will not be allowed.
