FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU graduate and former women's basketball player Amy Okonkwo has signed a professional contract to continue her career on the hardcourt with Club Deportivo Zamarat in Zamora, Spain.
Okonkwo will join the club, also known as Quesos El Pastor La Polverosa, which competes in the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto, the top-tier women's league in Spain.
The league plays a 26-game regular season under FIBA rules and is comprised of 14 teams which compete for the Queen's Cup, the Spanish League and EuroLeague.
Okonkwo recently completed her senior season at TCU, earning All-Big 12 Second Team honors while helping the Frogs to their most successful season since joining the conference. The three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree also played a huge role in leading TCU to its second consecutive WNIT semifinal appearance and was named to the WNIT All-Tournament Team in doing so.
A three-year player for the Horned Frogs after transferring from USC, Okonkwo ended her TCU career with the sixth-highest scoring average in school history with 13.11 points per game. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native also ranks ninth with 606 career rebounds, 10th all-time in both career points (1,324) and field-goal percentage (.479), and finishes as the second-most accurate free-throw shooter in program history, making 85.0 percent from the charity stripe.
