Springer finished tied for 28th to lead TCU
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – TCU's men's golf season came to an end Monday with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships at Blessings Golf Club.
The Horned Frogs began the day in 10th place with the goal of making the top eight to advance to match play. However, after improving its team score in the second and third rounds, TCU shot 23-over 311, the same number it put up in round one. TCU finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships for the third time in the last five seasons.
A steady 20 MPH wind through most of the afternoon made Blessings Golf Club even more challenging. The Frogs began play on the back nine for the third-straight round, but struggled and shot 23-over holes 10-18.
The second nine was better for most of the Frogs, especially Hayden Springer who was 3-under 33 over that stretch with the help of three-straight birdies. Springer matched Sunday's score of even-par 72 to finish with an overall score of 8-over 296 to lead TCU and tie for 28th place.
Stefano Mazzoli had just two birdies for the round and shot 5-over 75. He finished tied for 38th with a score of 11-over 299.
David Ravetto struggled throughout the round and finished with a score of 11-over 83. He finished in 67th place with a score of 19-over 307.
Turner MacLean and Triston Fisher also shot in the 80's. MacLean was 10-over 82 and finished 20-over 308 for the championships to finish tied for 68th. Fisher finished 78th at 26-over 314.
Including Pierre Mazier, who didn't compete this week, the NCAA Championships brought an end to the careers of six seniors. Fisher, MacLean, Mazier and Mazzoli have been together for the last four years and Ravetto and Springer joined the squad as transfers two seasons ago.
The Frogs return soon-to-be sophomores Alejandro Aguilera and Justin Gums as well as junior Trevor Brown. TCU will welcome five freshmen who signed in the fall.
