Frogs begin the third round at 12:22 p.m.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – TCU will head into the third round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships tied for 20th after a big improvement Saturday at Blessings Golf Club.
The Horned Frogs shot 7-over 295, 16 strokes better than Friday's opening round, to move up four positions and within striking distance of 15th place. After Sunday's round, only the top 15 will advance to the fourth round on Monday. TCU sits just five strokes back of 15th place SMU (+25).
Once again the back nine (+11) provided higher scores than the front nine (+4) despite TCU starting on the No. 10 hole this time out.
David Ravetto led the Frogs after shooting even-par 72, an improvement of seven strokes from Friday's round. Ravetto had a bogey-free front nine including an eagle on the par 5 No. 5 hole. At 7-over 151, Ravetto is tied for 72nd place.
Stefano Mazzoli shot 2-over 74 on the day with the only real mishap coming on the par 4 No. 7 hole, which is proving to be one of the toughest on the course. Mazzoli made triple bogey on the hole. Mazzoli, along with Hayden Springer, is tied for 77nd place at 8-over 152.
Springer had TCU's other eagle on Saturday. The Trophy Club, Texas native hit an iron shot from the deep rough on the par 4 No. 11 hole. The ball ran down the hill near the green, hit the flag stick and went in the hole.
Turner MacLean shot 2-over 74, an improved of five strokes from Friday. He is tied for 89th at 9-over 153.
TCU will tee-off at 12:22 p.m. Sunday on the 10th hole with North Florida and South Carolina.
