Frogs face Auburn in team bracket Thursday

WACO, Texas – TCU equestrian had a whirlwind of a day, taking down Delaware State 3-1 in Horsemanship, falling in a heartbreaking fashion to UT Martin, 2-2 (1245-1240), in Equitation on the Flat and coming up short to South Carolina, 4-0, in the first event of the day, Reining.

Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield
"I was so proud of our effort on the flat. They hung it all out there and rode very well against a strong UT Martin. We need to congratulate the Skyhawks for their performance. Now we must get ready for Auburn tomorrow."

Head Western Coach Melissa Dukes
"Everyone rode well in Reining, it just wasn't our day. Everyone was clean and we know what we need to do to peak tomorrow. Our work in Horsemanship gives us a lot of confidence going into tomorrow. We have worked so hard this whole year to peak at nationals, which is what we always like to do. I think anytime you win it boosts your confidence but we really came out strong this afternoon. I think that proved to the girls that even though we had a tough start, we can end the season well."

The Rundown
TCU kicked off the morning in Reining where the Frogs posted three very solid scores but were nipped in every ride. Jamie Cook and Claire Dittrich were the high scorers for the Frogs in the event, both earning a 208.5.

In Equitation on the Flat, TCU earned the first two points of the event. Wynne Weatherly notched a 220-210 win on Punch, followed by a 205-170 victory on Ethon by Jacey Albaugh. The Skyhawks bounced back, however, taking the next two points by scores of 182-150 and 185-172. This pitted the two sides in a 747-747 raw score stalemate. After a period of recalculation the scores were deemed to be equal and the tiebreaker of all five judges was used as opposed to three. After tabulating all of the scores, No. 9 TCU fell to No. 8 UT Martin, 1245-1240, in a third-level tiebreak scenario.

To finish the day, TCU took on Delaware State in Reining and won 3-1. TCU performed exceptionally well in Horsemanship, netting three scores of 211 or more. Jamie Cook was the high scorer for the Frogs, earning a 221 on Chili followed closely by freshman Natalia DeVencenty who scored a 220.5 on Pete. Josie Mootz picked up the other point for TCU in a 211-208 decision on Phoebe.

Notes
- TCU sent a lineup of all freshman to compete in Equitation on the Flat, the first time the Frogs have done so all season.
- The Frogs finished Equitation on the Flat in a tie for only the third time this season.
- The Frogs first-round bye in Equitation over Fences now pits them against Georgia after a 4-0 Bulldogs victory.
- Five Horned Frogs made their NCEA National Championship debut.
