TCU opened the weekend with a 7-0 sweep of Rice on Saturday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – A complete domination across doubles and singles led the No. 12 TCU men's tennis team to a 7-0 victory over Rice on Saturday afternoon at the indoor facility inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
The win was never in doubt for the Horned Frogs (8-3) as they cruised to the doubles point over the Owls (7-7). Alex Rybakov and Alastair Gray were unstoppable on court two with the duo scoring the 6-0 victory. No. 26 Reese Stalder and Bertus Kruger scored their third victory over a ranked opponent this season as they toppled No. 49 Sumit Sarkar and Eric Rutledge, 7-5, on court one to secure the early lead.
TCU took the momentum into singles action and were able to grab five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Luc Fomba got the first victory on court five followed by No. 83 Bertus Kruger on court four. No. 6 Rybakov and No. 62 Gray finished mere moments apart on courts one and two while senior Stalder came back from being down a set and break to take his match on court three, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Sander Jong got the late start on court six but was able to close out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"It is nice to be back playing at home. There is so much history between our program and Rice and I thought the boys did a great job coming out focused and energetic. The doubles point is always nice to win. I was very proud of Reese (Stalder) for coming back in his match and stopping any momentum created by that match. I loved Reese's energy and body language. Today's performance is what we needed going into tomorrow's huge battle against highly ranked Illinois. We will need all the support we can get from our fans. It is at noon so please come out."
