TCU Opens Series With 12-2 Victory

Lodolo fans 13; Henry and Shepherd homer
FORT WORTH – No. 20 TCU topped Eastern Michigan, 12-2, in the series opener on Friday night at Lupton Stadium. The Horned Frogs scored nine runs in their final two at-bats to break open a close game. Austin Henry homered and went 2-for-5 at the plate with a career-high five RBIs.
The Rundown
Nick Lodolo set the tone on the mound for the Frogs with seven shutout innings. He didn't allow a hit in the game until there was one out in the seventh inning. Lodolo finished the night, matching his career high with 13 strikeouts over seven innings of work. He allowed just one hit and walked four.
TCU opened the scoring in the second, picking up three runs on four hits. Johnny Rizer doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an Austin Henry ground out. With two on and two out, Andrew Keefer ripped a two-run double into the left center gap for a 3-0 lead.
The game stayed 3-0 until the Frogs exploded for seven two-out runs in the seventh. TCU sent 11 men to the plate in the inning. The walks loaded the bases for Henry, who delivered a two-run single to give the Frogs some breathing room at 5-0. Three batters later with the bases loaded again, Conner Shepherd hit a grand slam to push the advantage to 10-0.
Eastern Michigan pushed across a pair of two-out runs in the eighth, but the Frogs responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-out, two-run home run from Henry to account for the 12-2 final.
Matt Rudis retired the side in order in the ninth to lock up the win for the Frogs.
