
TCU Takes Series With 10-4 Win Sunday

Keefer homers; Watson drives in three
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 20 TCU scored seven unanswered runs to rally for a 10-4 victory over Long Beach State Sunday afternoon at Blair Field. Charles King threw five innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season. Josh Watson drove in three runs, while Adam Oviedo collected two hits and drove in two.
The Rundown
TCU scored a run in each of the first three innings but found itself trailing 4-3 after three frames. Austin Henry's two-out double gave the Horned Frogs an early 1-0 lead, but the Dirtbags answered with two in the bottom of the first.
After Andrew Keefer tied the game with a home run to open the second, the Frogs took a 3-2 lead when Johnny Rizer scored on a two-out wild pitch in the third. Again, Long Beach State had an answer with two runs in the bottom of the third.
In the sixth, the Frogs batted around and scored four times to regain a lead they would never relinquish. With runners on the corners, Zach Humphreys tied the game with a base hit. A two-run triple from Oviedo followed and the Frogs had a 6-4 advantage. A wild pitch allowed Oviedo to score for a three-run lead, 7-4.
Two more runs came around to score in the seventh as the cushion grew to five, 9-4. Watson's two-out, bases-loaded single brought home Humphreys and Oviedo. The Frogs tacked on their final run in the ninth on an RBI-ground out from Watson.
Charles King (1-0) turned in five solid innings in relief of Brandon Williamson. He entered a tie game with the bases loaded. He got a double play ball and a ground out to end the inning with only one more run scoring. He finished the afternoon allowing just a hit and a walk while striking out two.
