Frogs leave Texas for the first time this season
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The sixth-ranked TCU equestrian program will head to the East Coast this weekend to face off against Sweet Briar (Hunter Seat) and Lynchburg (exhibition) at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday. The Horned Frogs will then head two states south for a top-10 showdown with No. 4 South Carolina the following day at 9 a.m. CT.
Director of Equestrian, Haley Schoolfield
"There are certainly a lot of logistics involved in a trip like this. Our job is to help the student-athletes focus on their performances this weekend and shut out all other distractions. We had a great showing last meet; every good ride builds momentum within the team. We are looking forward to facing some great competition this weekend."
Last Time Out
The Frogs took down West Texas A&M, 15-1, at the John Justin Arena in the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo meet. TCU lost its only point in Reining and won three of the four Most Outstanding Performers awarded.
Scouting the Frogs
TCU looks to continue its string of strong individual performances as the Horned Frogs have captured 19 of the 24 MOPs named this season. Elena Hurd and Janelle Henningsen both enter the spring season undefeated. Freshmen Skylar Smith and Bella Andrews are slated to compete in the first regular season meet of their collegiate careers. Izzy Baxter is also expected to compete both days, she boasts an impressive 3-0 record over Fences and a 2-1 record on the Flat with two MOPs in both events.
Scouting the Vixens
Sweet Briar enters the meet winless on the season (0-5). The Vixens only compete in the English discipline and most recently fell to South Carolina, 1-9, on Oct. 26. The closest contest of the year for Sweet Briar came against Delaware State, which was ranked eighth at the time.
Scouting the Hornets
Lynchburg has only competed in two NCEA meets this season, both of which they lost 6-2. The first NCEA meet for the Hornets was against SMU on Sept. 21, the second against South Carolina on Oct. 26. Similarly, Lynchburg only competes in the English discipline.
Scouting the Gamecocks
South Carolina comes into the meet ranked No. 4 in the nation, boasting a 4-3 record on the season and 1-2 in SEC action. Saturday's matchup will be the first NCEA meet for the Gamecocks since last year when they took down Baylor and Fresno State in California. Including exhibitions, South Carolina has won its last eight contests.
Series History
TCU has never faced Sweet Briar in an official meet. The Horned Frogs did pick up a 2-1 victory in Fences over the Vixens in last year's NCEA Championship. Friday's meeting with Lynchburg will be the first in school history. South Carolina leads the all-time series 7-2 over TCU. The Gamecocks won the most recent matchup, 9-8, on Feb. 12, 2017.
