STILLWATER, Okla. – In its first Big 12 meet of the spring season, the TCU equestrian team fell to the sixth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 12-8, Saturday afternoon at Totusek Arena.
Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield
"Obviously this was not the result we came to Stillwater for, but we showed tremendous growth from the beginning of the month. During February, we competed seven times, six of which were on the road. We are very excited to be back home for our next two meets."
The Rundown
The morning in Stillwater started with Equitation over Fences, where TCU showed tremendous competitiveness. All five Horned Frogs scored between 79 and 83, but TCU could only come away with two points. Raegan Rast and Izzy Baxter earned those two victories by scores of 82-80 and 83-82, respectively.
Totusek Arena then converted to Western where the Frogs and Cowgirls squared off in Horsemanship. The Frogs again showed great consistency scoring no lower than 72. Josie Mootz won the Most Outstanding Performer honor with an impressive 76-73.5 win over Sarah Miller. Cydney Benes picked up the other point for the Frogs, winning 75-73 over Maddie Bender.
The arena then turned back to English for Equitation on the Flat where TCU won another two points. Wynne Weatherly tied for the high score in the event with a score of 85. Weatherly won the MOP for the event. The Frogs other point was picked up by Izzy Baxter who won 83-73 on Zodiac. Niki Barnes also turned in an impressive 82 but was bested by two points by Hannah Janson.
The show ring then turned back Western for Reining. Claire Dittrich and Bella Andrews won the two points for the Horned Frogs, both scoring a 69. Josie Ferrante was the high scorer of the event for the Frogs with a score of 72, but Hannah Mitchell's 72.5 narrowly stole the point. Mitchell won the MOP in reining for the Cowgirls.
Next Time Out
The Frogs will be back in action next weekend as they host Baylor in the Big 12 regular-season finale next Saturday at 10 a.m. at Turning Point Ranch.
