Miller Scores 1,000th Career Point

FORT WORTH, Texas– Desmond Bane scored a team-high 18 points, but it was not enough as TCU fell to No. 14 Kansas in overtime, 82-77, Monday in front an over capacity crowd of 7,356 at Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (17-7, 5-6) fought hard in a back and forth affair, overcoming deficits of six and 12 points to force overtime, but Kansas' (19-6, 8-4) 5-0 run to start overtime and its clutch free throw shooting proved to be too much for the Horned Frogs, who snapped an eight-game conference home winning streak.

TCU scored the first seven points of the game before Kansas called a time out and responded with a 26-13 scoring run to grab a 26-20 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Kendric Davis proceeded to go on a personal 7-0 scoring run to propel the Frogs to a 32-28 lead with 2:49 remaining in the first half, but the Jayhawks closed the gap, tying the score at 37-37 at the half after hitting their last four shots.

Both teams traded baskets for the first few minutes of the second half before Kansas went on an 11-2 run to grab a 53-43 lead with 13:57 remaining in the second half. The Jayhawks held its largest lead of the game, 12, with 9:03 to play. KU led by nine with just under five minutes to play before TCU responded with a 13-0 run to take a 69-65 lead, electrifying the largest crowd at Schollmaier arena this season. Two baskets from Dedric and KJ Lawson of Kansas in the final minute of the game knotted the score at 69-69, sending the Horned Frogs to overtime for the first time this season.

Kansas scored the first five points of overtime, but five straight points by Kouat Noi and a free throw by Davis tied the game, 74-74 with 1:28 to play. The difference in the final minute of play came at the free throw line where KU was 6-of-6 and TCU was 3-of-6.

Team Notes
- TCU dropped to 2-18 all-time against Kansas.
- It was TCU's first home conference loss since Feb. 3, 2018 against Texas Tech. The Horned Frogs had won their previous 12 home conference contests.
- It was TCU's second time hosting Big Monday. Last year, TCU defeated No. 7 West Virginia 83-73 on Jan. 22, 2018.
- Both teams went to the locker rooms at the half tied 37-37. It was only the second time in the Jamie Dixon era that the Horned Frogs went to the locker room with a tied score.
- This was TCU's first overtime game of the season. TCU's last overtime contest came in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinals last season against Kansas State. The Horned Frogs fell to 49-68 in overtime games all-time. Jamie Dixon fell to 20-12 all-time in overtime games.
- The announced attendance of 7,356 was the fourth most for a TCU home game and the most since 7,368 saw TCU beat No. 7 West Virginia in last season's Big Monday game on Jan. 22, 2018.
- The game had five ties and 13 lead changes.

Individual Notes
- Desmond Bane scored a team-high 18 points which placed him 31st on the all-time TCU scoring list with 1,054 points.
- Bane also played a career-high 44 minutes, the most minutes played by a Horned Frog since Alex Robinson played 45 minutes in TCU's double overtime contest at Kansas on Jan. 10, 2018.
- As a part of his 8-point effort, JD Miller sank two crucial free throws late in the second half, giving him 1,002 points for his career, becoming the 38th Horned Frog to reach the 1,000-point mark.
- Alex Robinson scored 13 points, moving him into 32nd place on TCU's all-time scoring list with 1,047 points.
- Kendric Davis scored in double digits for the second consecutive game after scoring 16 points, including a career-high 7 free-throws made. It was the first time in his career he scored 10 or more points in back-to-back games.
- Davis also recorded career highs in assists (7) and minutes (36). It was the first time in his career he led the team in assists.
- Robinson also added four steals, giving him 135 for his career and moving him into sixth place on the TCU all-time steals list. His four steals also tied a season high, last occurring against USC on Dec. 7.
- Kouat Noi sunk a 3-pointer for the 23rd consecutive game. He entered the game one of seven major conference players with at least one made three in 22-straight games.
- Noi also tallied a career-high in minutes played with 42.
- After scoring 14 points, Noi has scored in double figures in 18 of the 20 games he has played this season.
- Kevin Samuel recorded two blocks, giving him multiple blocks in seven of his last nine games.
