Rifle Set To Defend Conference Title

Horned Frogs going for fourth straight championship
FORT WORTH, Texas – The top-ranked TCU women's rifle team heads to Fairbanks, Alaska to take part in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. The Horned Frogs are the defending league champions and looking to claim their fourth straight PRC Championship.
Competing will be No. 4 Air Force, No. 6 Alaska, No. 14 Ohio State, No. 17 Nevada and No. 18 UTEP. This season the Frogs finished undefeated in conference matches (8-0).
No. 1 TCU ranks first nationally in air rifle average (2,375.5) and fifth in smallbore average (2,324.8). The Frogs have been an air rifle powerhouse this season, posting seven of the top 10 team scores in the discipline, including two record-setting performances (2,384 at The Citadel and 2,385 at Ohio State).
Senior Rachel Garner paces the team in aggregate average at 1,178.9, a mark that ranks third in the NCAA. She is followed by Casey Lutz and Elizabeth Marsh who rank seventh (1,174.6) and eighth (1,174.5), respectively.
In smallbore, the Frogs are led by Garner. She owns the fifth best average in the country with a 584.6. Marsh also ranks seventh with a mark of 582.6.
TCU has three members ranked in the top 10 overall performers in air rifle. Lutz averages a score of 596.1, the second-best mark in the nation. Garner sits in sixth with a 594.3 and freshman Kristen Hemphill rounds out the top 10 with a 592.6 average.
Saturday will feature the smallbore portion of the championships followed by air rifle on Sunday.
