
November Scholar-Athletes of the Month

FORT WORTH - Kristen Hemphill from women's rifle and Garret Wallow from football have been named TCU's Scholar-Athletes of the Month for November.
Hemphill, a sophomore nursing major, helped lead the frogs to a 3-0 record during the month of November. The Long, Texas native posted a mark of 1,182 in the first win of the month over UTEP. The Frogs posted a 2,385, marking the sixth best score in NCAA history. In the victory, Hemphill tied her smallbore career-high score of 587 and earned a 595 in air rifle. In a win over Murray State, Hemphill turned in the top score of 1,181, the third-straight week over 1,180. In smallbore, Hemphill tied a career-high for the second straight week with a 587 and earned a 594 in air rifle. In the final match of November, Hemphill led the Frogs with a career-high mark of 1,184. She earned a career-high in smallbore with a 588 and paced the team in air rifle with a 596.
Hemphill and the women's rifle team host Ohio State and Cost Guard on Jan. 18.
Garret Wallow, a junior communication studies major and comparative race and ethnic studies minor from New Orleans, La., earned Big 12 First-Team honors for the 2019 season. The linebacker recorded 125 tackles which included 18 for a loss and 3.5 sacks, leading the Big 12 and placing him seventh nationally. Wallow was also an Honorable-Mention Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Wallow's 125 tackles placed him at 10.4 total tackles per game for first in the Big 12 and eighth in the country. After surpassing Ty Summers, Wallow is now fourth all-time in tackles in TCU history, only behind Paul Dawson, Martin Patterson, and Travin Howard. In the month of November, Wallow led the Frogs in tackles with 15. He also recorded his first career interception in a 37-27 win over No. 15 Texas.
