
Frogs Open Season at Pebble Beach

TCU begins the year the same way it has in six of the last seven years
FORT WORTH, Texas – For the sixth time in seven years, the TCU men's golf team will open the season at one of the most beautiful courses in the world when it competes at The Carmel Cup starting Friday.
Pebble Beach Golf Links, home to five U.S. Open Championships and the 2019 U.S. Open, more than any course in the last 50 years, will once again play host to The Carmel Cup. Started seven years ago by TCU alum Fin Ewing, The Carmel Cup features eight of the top teams in collegiate golf including five ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. The field includes four Big 12 Conference teams, including preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Oklahoma State.
The six individuals that will travel to Carmel, Calif., are returners Triston Fisher, Turner MacLean, Pierre Mazier, David Ravetto and Hayden Springer and newcomer Alejandro Aguilera. The top five finishers will count towards the team score.
TCU will be without PING Honorable Mention All-American Stefano Mazzoli who will represent Italy at the World Amateur in Dublin, Ireland beginning on Sept. 5.
TCU will tee off beginning at 10 a.m. CT on Friday. The three-round tournament concludes on Sunday.

THE COURSE – Par 72 | 6,828 yards
Since 1919, golfers from around the world have dreamed of playing Pebble Beach Golf Links, rated the greatest public golf course in America by Golf Digest for 13 consecutive years. It's par 3 No. 7 hole is known as the most famous short par-3 in all of golf. The prestige of Pebble Beach can be summed up best by the fact that when Jack Nicklaus said that if he only had one more round to play, it would be Pebble Beach Golf Links.
THE FIELD – Rankings via Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll
No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 15 Texas Tech, No. 17 Arkansas, (RV) Georgia, Mississippi and TCU.
TCU AT THE CARMEL CUP
TCU won the event in 2012 behind Julien Brun's individual championship. The Frogs were third in 2014 and sixth in 2015. TCU finished in fifth place last season, two spots better than in 2016, at 16-under 1064. MacLean led the team and tied for 15th place at 6-under 210, which tied a career low.
NEW SEASON
- Bill Montigel begins his 32nd season as TCU's head coach.
- TCU returns all six individuals that competed last season and helped the Horned Frogs qualify for their 29th consecutive NCAA Regional.
- Triston Fisher (Southlake), Turner MacLean (Fort Worth), Pierre Mazier (France), Stefano Mazzoli (Italy), David Ravetto (France) and Hayden Springer (Trophy Club) are all seniors this season.
- Fisher, MacLean, Mazier and Mazzoli all started as freshmen at TCU in the 2015-16 season.
- TCU welcomes two newcomers this season. Freshman Alejandro Aguilera (Spain) was the runner-up at the 2016 Boys Amateur Championship. Freshman Justin Gums (Lodi) tied for 16th at the California State Golf Championship last spring. Trevor Brown (Austin), a transfer from Rice last season, is back after not competing last season. He tied for 12th at the Conference USA Championship in 2016.
- TCU will play four tournaments in the fall, including the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Sept. 30 – Oct. 2. The 15-team field will be made up of nine teams in the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll.

Triston Fisher (Senior – Southlake, Texas) – Playing at Pebble Beach for the fifth time, the fourth at the Carmel Cup… Just played finished up at the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach on Aug. 14… Two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team… Posted a career-best scoring average of 73.82 last season.
