AUSTIN, Texas – TCU opened an early lead in the game, but couldn't stave off a hard-charging Texas offense as the Longhorns walked off with a 5-3 win on Friday night to secure the series victory.
The Rundown
TCU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first. Josh Watson doubled with one out and moved to third on an A.J. Balta base hit. A walk to Michael Landestoy loaded the bases followed by another walk to Johnny Rizer to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead. An errant throw on a grounder that should have ended the inning allowed two more runs to score.
The Longhorns got on the board in the fourth. With a run in and the bases loaded with nobody out, Jake Eissler was able to wiggle off the hook. He got a strike out for the first out. Conner Shepherd made a strong defensive play to cut down a run at the plate and a fly out ended the inning with TCU still leading 3-1.
A one-out triple in the fifth was followed by a Kody Clemens home run to tie the game at three. Sean Wymer took over to close out the fifth and he pitched the Frogs into the ninth inning.
TCU had its chances in the game to add to its run total. The Frogs had two on in the fifth with one out and the same scenario played out in the seventh and ninth innings, but each time the Longhorn pitchers were able to get out of the jam.
Heartbreak followed in the bottom of the ninth as Duke Ellis beat out a two-out infield single to bring up Clemens, who delivered the walk-off home run.
Eissler allowed three runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Sean Wymer tossed four shutout innings, striking out six.
