FORT WORTH, Texas - A final weekend at home is up next for the TCU women's tennis team as the Horned Frogs are set to host No. 6 Texas and No. 21 Baylor on April 6 and April 8, respectively, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Frogs (9-9, 0-3 Big 12) will first take on the Longhorns (14-4, 4-0 Big 12) on Friday at 5:30 p.m., before facing off against the Bears (11-10, 1-3 Big 12) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free to both matches and fans in attendance can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action.
TCU Notables
TCU is still looking for its first win in conference action as the team enters its final weekend at home. Last week, the Frogs dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 17 Texas Tech on the road. The matches against Texas and Baylor will also mark the final home matches for the three Frog seniors - Donika Bashota, Alexis Pereira and Aleksandra Zenovka.
TCU has a ranked singles player and one ranked doubles tandem. Zenovka leads the team with a No. 98 ranking with 16 wins on the season and three over ranked opponents. Bashota holds the most wins this season with 18, while Aleksa Cveticanin, Stevie Kennedy, Marie Norris and Meredith Roberts all have double-digit wins. Bashota and Elizabeth Tedford hold the team's only doubles ranking at No. 78 with five wins on the season. Kennedy and Norris continue to lead the team with a 6-1 mark in doubles action with five wins at the No. 2 position.
Scouting the Longhorns
Texas is the only team that remains undefeated in Big 12 action with wins over Kansas (4-2), Kansas State (4-0), Oklahoma (4-0) and Oklahoma State (4-0). The Longhorns are coming off a brief break from conference action where they picked up a 4-0 sweep over Florida at the USTA National Campus last weekend. Texas boasts four rankings including the No. 1 ranked singles player in Bianca Turati who is 22-2 on the season and 11-1 in dual matches. Sister Anna Turati sits at No. 28 while Petra Granic is ranked No. 67. Granic pairs up with Bojana Markovic for the team's only doubles ranking at No. 41 with the pair holding six wins on the year.
Scouting the Bears
Baylor took a quick break from conference action and picked up a 5-2 victory on No. 9 Northwestern for the team's sixth win over a ranked foe. The Bears have totaled only one win in conference action this season with a 5-0 sweep of Oklahoma. Five Bears have double-digit wins in singles this season with Livia Kraus leading the way with a 20-6 record including a 9-1 mark at the No. 6 position. In doubles, Kristina Sorokolet and Jessica Hinojosa hold the only individual ranking for Baylor at No. 70 with four wins this season and two over ranked opponents.
All-Time Series Records
Friday's match will be the 34th meeting all-time between TCU and Texas with the Longhorns holding a 26-8 advantage in the all-time series record. Texas was able to pick up two wins over the Frogs last season with a 4-0 victory during the season and a 4-3 win during the Big 12 Championship. This will be the 14th match played in Fort Worth during the series with Texas leading the series at 10-3. This is the sixth meeting as conference foes during the regular season with the Longhorns holding the slight advantage at 3-2.
Sunday's match will be the 37th meeting all-time between TCU and Baylor with the series all tied up at 18-18. TCU won the first match as Big 12 Conference foes in 2013, but the Bears have come out on top the last five matches. This will be the 19th time playing in Fort Worth with TCU holding a 10-8 advantage in matches played on the Bernard J. `Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts.
