FORT WORTH – A pair of big innings and four home runs helped No. 15 TCU run away with a 12-2 victory over Kansas State on Saturday at Lupton Stadium. The Horned Frogs slugged three of their four home runs in the third inning.
The Rundown
Kansas State briefly held a 1-0 lead after a solo home run from Jordan Maxson in the second. A Coby Boulware sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning tied the game at one.
The bats came to play in the third as TCU unloaded for a trio of home runs to score five times and open up a 6-1 lead.
A wild pitch allowed Zach Humphreys to score to give the Frogs a 2-1 lead with one out. Michael Landestoy and A.J. Balta went back-to-back with their first home runs of the season to push the lead to four, 5-1. Conner Shepherd's second home run in as many days capped the third inning fireworks.
Six more runs came around to score in the seventh as the lead grew to double-digits, 12-2. Luken Baker led off the inning with his sixth home run of the year.
With one on and two out, five straight Frogs reached base. Tristan Hanoian was hit by a pitch and Connor Wanhanen walked to push the lead to 9-2. Humphreys bounced a single up the middle to drive in two more. An error in the outfield allowed Wanhanen to score the final run of the inning.
