élan McCall was named AVCA Honorable Mention All-America on Wednesday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The final postseason honors were announced on Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as freshman élan McCall earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.
McCall becomes the sixth player in program history to garner All-America honors and the third under head coach Jill Kramer. The Leander, Texas native also becomes the first freshman in program history to be named an All-American.
"I'm very proud of our team for all of their hard work in 2018," Kramer said. "We always say if one of them are awarded, they are all awarded. élan is very deserving of this honor. She graduated early and came to TCU in the spring to prep herself as well as she could for the 2018 season. She used that semester well, worked very hard to be consistent in her play this season and was a steady force for our team.
"With a solid core group returning next season and a stellar 2019 class, we are excited to get in the gym with our team and build on the momentum going into our 2019 season."
McCall earned the All-American distinction after becoming the first freshman in program history to earn AVCA All-Southwest Region honors and the first player to earn the Freshman of the Year award. The rookie was already a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team and the All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
McCall finished the season at the top of the Big 12 and in the top 10 nationally in kills and points. McCall won six Big 12 weekly awards this season which is the most by any player in the conference including five Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors. This season, McCall became the first player in program history to be named Sports Import/AVCA Player of the Week and VolleyMob Player of the Week. McCall finished the season ranked in the top 10 of the league in three categories with 4.74 kills per set, 5.21 kills per set, 3.26 digs per set and was the top freshman with 14 double-doubles.
TCU finished the 2018 season with an overall mark of 15-12 with seven wins in league action.
