Dear Horned Frogs Fans:
BACK TO BACK
We begin this month's edition with a special shout out to our women's golf program. We have won consecutive tournaments in San Antonio and San Marcos, defeating some impressive competition along the way. Head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin has now led us to 20 tournament championships in her 25-year TCU tenure, but this is the first time for us to capture back-to-back titles.
Over the last two events, we have set school records for single round and tournament scores. Our consecutive titles have pushed us into the national top 25 with a No. 25 ranking. Keep it going ladies!
RAIN RAIN GO AWAY
According to National Weather Service records, Fort Worth had the most rain in its history for September and October. After enduring 12.7 inches of rain in September, bettering the record of 10.8 inches in 1932, we then had 15.7 inches in October to surpass the previous mark of 14.2 inches from 1981. To put this in perspective, we had less than 3 inches of rain in September and October last year.
Needless to say, this heavy rain has impacted our Amon G. Carter east side expansion project and slowed construction considerably. Thankfully, we are back up and running. We are hopeful for drier conditions this winter and spring so that we can open the new facility in time for kick-off of the 2019 football season!
#BEATKSTATE
A perfect 74-degree day is set for tomorrow's football game versus Kansas State at 2:30 p.m. Among the planned festivities are a pregame vintage planes flyover as well as TCU graduate and 2018 Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers being present and recognized on the field. We'll also welcome the return of Cheer America to Amon G. Carter Stadium with 500 cheerleaders performing at halftime. As always, we will have Frog Alley for the family and Frog Walk as our team arrives on campus.
NEW FOOTBALL UNIS COMING
Uniforms are always a popular discussion item on social media and around town. In case you haven't heard, and thanks to our great relationship with Nike, we will indeed have a new set of football uniforms to debut for the 2019 season. I have seen them already (WOW!) and I am sure you will be excited too once they are revealed this winter.
IT'S A SELLOUT
With a preseason top-25 ranking for just the second time in our history, there's obviously a lot of excitement around our men's basketball program. It's incredibly rewarding to see all of you share in that feeling with our sellout of season tickets.
We will have a limited number of single-game tickets available beginning Saturday at 8 a.m. This will be for our non-conference games, excluding Florida in the Jan. 26 Big 12-SEC Challenge. On Saturday, Dec. 15, we'll have our Big 12 games and the contest with the Gators available for single-game purchases.
Our women's program, coming off a 23-win season and run to the WNIT Semifinals, has been picked fourth in the Big 12 preseason poll. It's the highest we've appeared during our seven years in the conference.
PARDON OUR DUST
With our basketball seasons starting next week, the women host Duquesne Tuesday at noon and the men face CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday at 8 p.m., please note some changes in your entrance to Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena due to construction with the Amon G. Carter Stadium east side expansion. If you're parking in Lot 3 or the Lot 5 LaDainian Tomlinson garage, there is a path just east of Frog Alley toward the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center that will get you to the front of the arena. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter.
HISTORY IN DICKIES ARENA
We're very proud to be the first major sporting event in the new Dickies Arena in Fort Worth that opens next year. The 14,000-seat facility will host NCAA Tournament games in the coming years. As a precursor, we'll play the first basketball game in Dickies Arena when we face USC on Dec. 6, 2019. It will be the second game of our series with the Trojans that begins this season with a Dec. 7 meeting at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
GO PELICANS
We're very proud of Kenrich Williams making the roster for the New Orleans Pelicans. Kenrich had a phenomenal career as a Horned Frog. After missing an entire season due to injury, he returned to action and became a cornerstone for head coach Jamie Dixon's program. In addition to his accomplishments on the court, which included All-Big 12 honors, Kenrich earned his TCU degree. He scored his first NBA points Thursday night at Portland where he had 5 points, including a 3-pointer, to go with a rebound for the Pelicans.
EYEING A THREE-PEAT
Under the leadership of head coach Eric Bell, our soccer program has had a phenomenal season. We're in position for a third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. We invite everyone to join our team for an NCAA Selection Show Watch Party Monday at 3:15 p.m. in the Stuart Family Courtside Club in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
