MG Reed recognized for her commitment to the community
WACO, Texas – TCU equestrian's Mary Gracen Reed was honored as the Signature Academics NCEA Standout Student-Athlete of the Month for October.
Reed, a junior and child development major from Batesville, Miss., participated in the Purple with Purpose trip this summer. A TCU Athletics study abroad project, Purple with Purpose was created to introduce student-athletes to international experiences in culture and learning. This summer's program worked in the Dominican Republic with a microfinancing company named Esperanza.
Reed's activity in the community extends to the TCU equestrian program as she leads the team's philanthropy committee which organizes and completes over 700 hours of community service per year. Her warm personality and ability to make connections spreads beyond TCU's campus to the Fort Worth community, where she has made connections and relationships that create service opportunities for the TCU equestrian program.
Her drive to better her community is met by her drive in the arena.
"MG perfectly represents what people mean when they talk about a 'fully rounded student athlete'. Not only is she incredibly hard working in the show pen, but she is supportive of her fellow teammates and works to provide to her community. She works with TCU Equestrian to provide service to Fort Worth and she traveled globally this past summer to lend a hand," Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield said. "MG is constantly working to do her part wherever she is, and she gets it all done with a smile. TCU is proud to have her as an athlete and teammate."
