MIAMI, Fla. – The TCU swimming and diving team continues its young season this weekend, traveling to Miami, Fla., for the FIU Fall Classic. The meet is scheduled for all day Friday and Saturday.
MEET INFO
TCU is one of eight teams competing at the meet and will swim against Florida International, Florida Atlantic, George Washington, Grand Canyon, Army, Florida Gulf Coast, and Old Dominion. Friday's action will begin at 3 p.m. CT, with Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
The team will send 18 Frogs for the swimming events and three divers. The TYR Fall Classic Roster can be found below.
Swiss Timing will provide a live stream of the meet.
CONNECTIONS
TCU's coaching staff has several connections to the teams competing this weekend. Head Coach James Winchester, as well as diving coach Anthony Crowder and assistant coach Birkir Jonsson, coached at George Washington prior to arriving at TCU. Jonsson graduated from Old Dominion in 2012. Assistant coach Jean Madison was a captain for FIU during her junior and senior seasons and was a member of their first Conference USA title.
LAST SEASON
This marks the second year in a row TCU has competed at the Fall Classic. Last year, the men finished fourth and the women finished sixth. Joao Andrade won the 200 free with a mark of 1:40.55 and earned a pair of third place finishes in the 500 free (4:36.71) and 100 free (46.82). Micaela Roemer and Claire Munster both finished fourth individually in the 100 fly (57.59) and 50 free (24.38) respectively, and finished fourth as members of the 400 free relay (3:32.62).
LAST TIME OUT
In the team's home opener against UTPB, two Frogs earned automatic NIC cuts with six others earning bonus cuts. Andrade earned cuts in in the 50 back and 100 IM, while Maddie Ibrahim earned automatically qualified in the 100 back. Brendan Barry, Noah Cumby, Kade Knoch, Hugh McPherson, Roemer, and John Smith all earned bonus cuts.
