No. 5 TCU kicks off Big 12 action against No. 4 Baylor Saturday
WACO, Texas – The fifth-ranked TCU equestrian program will take to the road Saturday morning to face off against No. 4 Baylor in the Frogs' first Big 12 meet of the year at 11 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
Director of Equestrian, Haley Schoolfield
"We are excited to get back into competition after a bit of a break. In addition to it being our first road meet of the season, it is also when we start Big 12 play. This young team is very talented and we are looking forward to putting them to the test this weekend."
Last Time Out
The Horned Frogs fell to No. 2 Texas A&M, 9-8, last meet, earning six of the nine points in the Western discipline, four of which came in reining. Freshman standout Izzy Baxter took home Most Outstanding Performer honors in both Hunter Seat events for the second time this year. Elena Hurd (reining) and Cydney Benes (horsemanship) grabbed the MOP honors in both Western events.
The All-Time Series
Baylor leads the all-time series, 18-6. TCU won the most recent matchup, 12-8, at last year's Big 12 Championship, while the Bears won the two regular-season matchups. The Frogs have gotten the best of the Bears in important matchups, as TCU has triumphed in three of the last four postseason contests.
Scouting the Bears
Baylor (3-1) is coming off an 11-9 loss at No. 7 Oklahoma State in its Big 12 opener. The Bears grabbed all three of their wins at the Willis Invitational, hosted in Waco.
Scouting the Frogs
After three weeks off, TCU is back in the saddle and looking to rebound after the narrow defeat at the hands of the Aggies, 9-8. The Horned Frogs have won all eight MOP honors awarded in regular-season competition this season. TCU has also been dominant in the Western arena on the year with veteran leaders like Anna Adams, Cydney Benes, Elena Hurd and Carly Lombard leading the helm. Newcomer Natalia DeVencenty is also undefeated for the Frogs and earned an MOP honor against Delaware State. Marah Huston is slated to make her season debut competing in horsemanship against the Bears.
