NORMAN, Okla. – A three-run home run for Renae Martinez capped No. 24 Oklahoma's rally for a stunning 9-8 victory over No. 5 TCU. The Sooners scored a run in each of their last four at-bats to complete the comeback.
The Rundown
TCU built a four run lead through the first three innings on a solo home run from Evan Skoug in the first and three runs in the third. The Frogs got RBIs from Skoug and Nolan Brown in the third to push the lead to 4-0.
Oklahoma plated three runs in the sixth with one out, helped along by a pair of walks and a bloop double from Martinez. TCU responded with a three-spot of its own in the seventh. Skoug scored on an errant throw by the Sooner first baseman and Ryan Merrill delivered a two-out, two-run double to restore the Frogs' four run cushion, 7-3.
Again, the Sooners rallied back with a two spot in the seventh. Dominic DiRenzo made it a 7-5 ballgame with a two-run home run. A solo shot from Brylie Ware in the eighth closed the gap to one, 7-6.
TCU picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth on Josh Watson's two-out double, but it bounced over the wall preventing another run from scoring, setting up the ninth inning dramatics.
The Sooners got the lead-off man on with an infield single. A bloop base hit into shallow center with two outs kept the inning alive for Martinez who just cleared the fence in left center with his sixth home run of the season.
