TCU Tops Baylor, 9-4, In Series Opener

FORT WORTH – No. 6 TCU raced out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 9-4 victory over Baylor in the series opener on Friday night at Lupton Stadium. The win pushes TCU's home winning streak to nine games.
The Rundown
TCU wasted little time grabbing the lead, picking up a pair of runs in the first. Austen Wade led off the inning with a double and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Josh Watson. Nolan Brown extended the lead to two with a sacrifice fly.
Ryan Merrill's lead-off triple in the second turned into another run as he scored on a Wade sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.
The Horned Frogs broke the game open with a five-spot in the third. Elliott Barzilli singled home the first run of the inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Luken Baker lined a two-run single into left. A fielding error allowed Connor Wanhanen to score for 7-0 lead. Evan Skoug drove in Baker with a base hit to right.
Baylor tried to mount a rally with a run in the sixth and three in the eighth to close the gap to four, 8-4, but TCU responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to push the lead back to five. Michael Landestoy provided the RBI-single.
Cal Coughlin got the final out of the eighth and set the side down in order in the ninth to lock up the win for Nick Lodolo (4-1). The freshman went six innings, allowing a run on seven hits. He walked two and struck out five.
