FORT WORTH, Texas - A final match at home in the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center is up next on the slate for the No. 31 TCU women's tennis team as they welcome No. 7 Texas Tech on Saturday, April 15.
The Horned Frogs (12-7, 4-3 Big 12) and the Red Raiders (20-3, 8-0 Big 12) will open up play at 1 p.m., with a free tennis clinic available to all those age 3 to 8th grade 30 minutes prior to the start of the match on the Bernard J. 'Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts. There is free admission to all fans and free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., in between the doubles and singles portion of both matches.
TCU Notables
TCU is riding a two-match winning streak and has won three of its last four matches entering Saturday's showdown with Texas Tech. Last weekend, the Frogs were able to get the 4-0 sweeps of West Virginia and Iowa State as Seda Arantekin and Sofiko Kadzhaya went undefeated across singles and doubles with perfect 3-0 marks.
In the rankings, Arantekin is still ranked in the singles poll at No. 69 with 17 wins on the season with 10 coming in dual match play. In the doubles poll, Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas hold the best team ranking at No. 13 with nine wins on the season and four over ranked opponents. Garrido-Rivas and Seda Arantekin are also in the doubles poll at No. 38 with a 4-0 mark in dual match play and two wins over ranked opponents.
Scouting the Red Raiders
Texas Tech enters Saturday's match on a 13-match winning streak and currently undefeated in Big 12 action. The Red Raiders already won a share of the Big 12 title by sweeping competition last weekend and will win the title outright with a win over TCU. Gabriela Talaba leads the team with 17 wins on the season and an Oracle/ITA ranking of No. 10. Felicity Maltby and Alex Valenstein are also ranked at No. 55 and No. 120, respectively. In doubles action, Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici hold the team's best ranking at No. 28 with 14 wins this season, while Maltby and Talaba have a team-best 15 wins and are 4-0 in conference action to go along with a No. 68 ranking.
All-Time Series Records
TCU and Texas Tech will be facing off for the 33rd time in program history with the Frogs holding the large advantage in the overall series record at 27-5. TCU won the first 20 meetings between the programs before the Red Raiders scored their first win in 1994. Since 2009, Texas Tech has been on the winning end of the competition as they have won five of the seven matches played. Last season, TCU was able to get the 4-0 during the regular season before Texas Tech took the 4-1 victory during the Big 12 Championship. Saturday's match will be the 17th match played in Fort Worth with TCU holding a 15-1 advantage.
