FORT WORTH, Texas – After going 4-0 overall and leading her team to a Pac-12 sweep of Washington and Oregon this past weekend, senior Seda Arantekin was honored by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon by earning Big 12 Co-Player of the Week honors.
This marks the second Big 12 weekly honor in the Istanbul, Turkey native's career as she shares the award this week with Blair Shankle from Baylor.
"Seda has continued her trend of improving each semester," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "She was super clutch this past weekend along with one of our other seniors – Olaya Garrido-Rivas. They both had stellar weekends and were major contributors in doubles and singles. I'm pumped for both of them and the roles they are playing to start the season. We need Seda to continue playing at a high level in order for our team to maximize our potential."
The No. 75 ranked singles player opened the weekend by coming back to down Nour Abbes of Washington at the No. 2 position in three sets on Friday, before taking down Nia Rose of Oregon on court two on Sunday in straight sets. The senior paired up with fellow classmate Caroline Wegner in doubles as the duo dominated with a 6-2 win on Friday and a 6-0 blanking on Sunday. Arantekin remains undefeated in singles dual matches with a 5-0 record at the No. 2 position and is 5-1 in doubles with Wegner also on court two.
TCU will take the next 10 days off before resuming action against Alabama at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.
