
Mazzoli Two Shots Back Entering Final Round

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Sophomore Stefano Mazzoli finished the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in second place after carding a 5-under 67 Saturday at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
Mazzoli, 8-under 136 for the tournament, will begin the final round on Sunday two strokes back of the leader, Norman Xiong of Oregon. The 67 was Mazzoli's third-lowest round of his career and also the first time he's recorded back-to-back rounds of sub-70.
TCU, which was in second place after the first round, finished the second round in fifth place after an even-288. For the tournament, the Frogs are 1-over 577. Two Big 12 opponents remain in striking distance as No. 34-ranked Kansas is third at 7-under 569 and No. 5 Texas Tech is in fourth at 6-under 570. Defending national champion 10th-ranked Oregon leads the 22-team field at 23-under 553.

- Sophomore Pierre Mazier finished the second round in a tie for 20th place after shooting his second even-par 72. - Competing as an individual, sophomore Turner MacLean is tied for 34th place at 2-over 146 after shooting a 1-under 71 on Saturday. - After shooting a 9-over 81 in the first round, senior Chelso Barrett had the best improvement after a 3-over 75 in the second round.
