TCU Just Short of Title in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- Brooke Graebe carded a 1-under-par 71 to key the best round of the tournament for the TCU women's golf team as it completed play Tuesday with a fourth-place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
At 19-over 883, the Horned Frogs finished just 6 strokes behind medalist NC State. TCU shot a 5-over 293 Tuesday.
"I'm really proud of the way we competed all week in our first tournament of the spring," TCU head women's golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "We were only 6 shots back in a very strong field and were in the leader group today. We also had our best round.
"We really know what we have to work on, and this gave us something to build on. We had some really great rounds by each person. All five of them counted and played some really strong golf. They've shown they can compete against the best of the best, and they are the best of the best. We're really looking forward to our next one."
Graebe birdied three of her opening eight holes and shot par on each hole of the back nine. The sophomore from Yorba Linda, Calif., tied for 26th individually.
Emmy Martin was the top Horned Frog individually, tying for ninth with a 2-over 218. It was the third straight top-10 result for the junior from Odessa, Fla. Martin's 73 Tuesday included a birdie with par on 15 holes.
Martin was only 3 strokes off the lead as five players tied for individual medalist honors at 215.
Annika Clark and Kelly McGovern recorded a 74 and 75, respectively, for TCU.
Clark had two birdies in posting her second top-20 finish of the season and fifth of her career. McGovern totaled a team-best four birdies, including back-to-back holes on 15 and 16. She was 1 under on the back nine.
Brooke McDougald was even par on the back nine.
TCU returns to action Feb. 27 at The Dickson in The Woodlands, Texas.
