
Spring Season Kicks-Off at Home

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women's tennis team is set to kick-off the 2017 spring season by hosting the TCU Invitational from Jan. 13-15 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs will host Texas State, Louisiana-Monroe and UTEP in the three-day tournament that begins on Friday at 1 p.m. The teams will start with doubles action on the first day before concluding the tournament on Saturday and Sunday with singles action. On Saturday, matches will begin at 12:45 p.m., while Sunday matches begin at 9 a.m. A doubles and two singles champions will be crowned at the end of the tournament.
In the ITA singles poll that was released last week, Seda Arantekin was the highest ranked player as she checked in at No. 75. Arantekin was previously ranked No. 114 in the preseason poll in September and went on to post seven singles wins during the fall season. Marie Norris rounded out the singles rankings at No. 115 which was the first career ranking for the sophomore. Norris went 7-3 in the fall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Texas Regional Championships presented by Oracle. The duo were also ranked in the Texas region at No. 6 and 11, respectively.
On the doubles side, Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas picked up the lone doubles nationally ranking as the duo sit at No. 16 after posting three straight wins during the fall and winning the Rice Invitational. The pair earned a Texas region ranking at No. 3 while, Arantekin and Caroline Wegner sit at No. 10 in the region rankings.
TCU begins its third season under the direction of Lee Taylor Walker and the Frogs return seven letterwinners and welcome two newcomers.
