Errors Haunt TCU in Loss To Texas Tech

FORT WORTH – Four unearned runs in the sixth proved to the be the difference in No. 6 TCU's 7-3 loss to No. 10 Texas Tech Friday night at Lupton Stadium.
The Rundown
TCU jumped on its first opportunity of the night to scratch across a run in the third. Dane Steinhagen raced around the bases with one out after the Texas Tech catcher sailed his throw into right field on a dropped third strike. Ryan Merrill gave the Frogs the 1-0 lead as he grounded out to short.
Texas Tech responded in the top of the fourth. For the second time in the game, the Red Raiders had a pair of runners in scoring position with one out. Hunter Hargrove tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
A lead-off walk in the fifth helped give Texas Tech its first lead of the night. Following the walk, back-to-back seeing-eye singles loaded the bases. Brian Trieglaff (4-1) limited the damage as he got a double play ball, but the go-ahead run scored.
With two on and nobody out in the Red Raider sixth, two TCU errors helped Texas Tech score two runs to take a 4-1 lead. A two-run triple from Stephen Smith extended the lead to five, 6-1.
The teams traded home runs in the seventh. Elliott Barzilli countered Eric Gutierrez's lead-off home run with one of his own as he clubbed his sixth of the year to make it a 7-2 game.
TCU pushed across its final run of the game with two outs in the ninth. Connor Wanhanen doubled and scored on a Steinhagen base hit.
