FORT WORTH – No. 6 TCU used a seven-run fifth inning to rally from a four-run deficit en route to a 13-6 win over No. 10 Texas Tech Saturday afternoon.
The Rundown
Texas Tech opened up a 5-1 lead after 5 ½ innings of play. Cory Raley's three-run home run in the fifth gave Texas Tech its largest lead of the afternoon. Connor Wanhanen drove in TCU's first run of the game after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
TCU's offense came to life in the bottom of the fifth as it stormed back with seven runs on just three hits. A walk, a hit and a hit batter loaded the bases with nobody out. Back-to-back walks to Josh Watson and Elliott Barzilli pulled the Frogs within two, 5-3. Dane Steinhagen was plunked to make it a one-run contest and Mason Hesse tied the game with a base hit to right.
An error on a ball hit by Austen Wade put the Frogs in front 6-5. Cam Warner singled and Evan Skoug reached on a fielder's choice to extend TCU's lead to three, 8-5.
The Frogs responded to Texas Tech's sixth-inning run with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame. Barzilli doubled home Watson, who opened the inning with a walk. Two batters later, Wanhanen lined a single down the right field line to drive in two more runs. He came around to score on a base hit from Austen Wade.
TCU's final run of the game came in the eighth. Steinhagen led off the inning with a base hit and stole two bases, eventually scoring on a two-out double from Wade to account for the final score.
