No. 6 TCU Claims Third-Place Saturday

STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 6 TCU put the finishing touches on the 2016 Big 12 Championship Saturday, defeating No. 8 K-State, 11-8.
The Rundown
With the win, the Horned Frogs improved to 6-8 overall and wrapped-up competition third in the final team standings for a second-straight season. Individually, senior Chantz Stewart and sophomore Carley Barnett were both named Big 12 Most Outstanding Performers at the championship in Reining and Equitation on the Flat, respectively.
Following Saturday's meet, the Horned Frogs had three student-athletes earn all-conference accolades in their respective disciplines. Earning all-league honors were Molly Peddicord (Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat), Megan McMullen (Horsemanship) and Stewart (Reining). Stewart, now a three-time All-Big 12 honoree, was also awarded the league's Reining Rider of the Year for a second-straight season, while Peddicord earned Equitation over Fences Rider of the Year accolades.
The Frogs made quick work of the Wildcats in Western Saturday, riding to a 6-4 decision, including a 4-1 victory in Horsemanship. McMullen scored a 146-141 win over Ashley Anderson, while senior Carly Epp dropped Alyssa Lombardi, 138-130. Erin Gillette was also victorious, topping Sydney Anson on Snip. Freshman Marah Huston rounded out the Horned Frog notables, downing Paige Kemper, 142-128.5.
In Reining, Stewart earned MOP accolades Saturday, riding Smarty to a 140-128.5 victory over Kali Retzler. Junior Brooke Boyle scored the other point for TCU, upending Kara Guy, 140-134.
On the Hunt Seat side, the Horned Frogs rode to a 3-1 victory in Equitation on the Flat, but dropped a hard fought 3-2 setback in Equitation over Fences.
Barnett scored one out of the two MOP honors on the Hunt Seat side in Equitation on the Flat en route to a 174-157 win over Halle Kutsche. Peddicord was also victorious, earning a 165-158 decision on Lucas. Senior Nicole Diamantis dropped Christina Martinelli, while Kari Hancock appeared to score a point for the Purple and White, but battled Henley Adkins to a 159-159 draw.
In Equitation over Fences, Diamantis moved to 2-0 on the day by earning a 162-158 victory versus Taylor Schmidt. Barnett continued her winning ways, upending Adkins.
Big 12 Championship Notes
Since joining the Big 12 Conference, TCU has picked up quite the hardware. The Horned Frogs have now had 16 all-conference honorees, four Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Performers, the Big 12 Coach of the Year, five Big 12 Rider of the Year honorees and three Big 12 Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
