Mazier Gets Ace, Frogs Make Move

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Pierre Mazier hit his first hole-in-one as a Horned Frogs to highlight a big day for the Horned Frogs as they made a major move up the leaderboard from 10th to third overall following two rounds of play at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The Horned Frogs improved their team total by 15 strokes and shot 280 on the second day of play, the best second round effort by anyone in the field. TCU is now in third place and just six stokes behind top place Penn State and Tennessee.
Paul Barjon leads the Frogs with a second round score of 66 and is second in the field behind Charles Huntzinger of Penn State, who shot a tournament record 64 in the second round. Giulio Castagnara is tied for 14th in the field after shooting 72 for the second straight day.
Mazier, who shot a 72 in the second round of play, aced the par 3, 173 yard, fifth hole for the Frogs to help push TCU up the leaderboard. Mazier currently stands in a tie for 43rd in the field alongside teammate Triston Fisher, who has also posted 76-72 in the opening rounds of play in Virginia.
It is the 39th year of the event, including 35th year at Kingsmill Resort and 34th on the River Course. The course has been a longtime host of the PGA and LPGA tours and is the current host to the LPGA Kingsmill Open. The field for the 2016 event includes Appalachian State, Binghamton, Dayton, Delaware, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, High Point, IPFW, Longwood, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Ohio, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, St. Francis (Pa.), St. Joseph's, Seton Hall, Temple, Tennessee, TCU, Towson, host William & Mary and Youngstown State.
The event is one of three tournaments remaining before the Big 12 Conference Championships begin, TCU's first tournament of the year played in the state of Texas. TCU is seeking its 27th consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance this spring.
