FORT WORTH -- The TCU track and field teams concluded the final day of the TCU Invitational on Friday with another school record on the field.
Senior Megan Smith broke the school record in the women's shot put on her first attempt after throwing for a mark of 56-5.75 (17.21m). Her effort took down Stevanie Wadsorth-Ferguson's program record of 56-4.75, set in 1993. Smith's mark is also the farthest ever recorded at the Lowdon Complex.
"It couldn't happen to a more deserving person," said associate head coach John Kenneson. "This is the result of years and years of dedication and hard work. We're thrilled to start the season with this and build from here."
Bowerman Watch List selection Ronnie Baker started the outdoor season right where he left off from indoors -- in first place. Baker finished the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 9.95 with plenty of room to breathe. Texas' Senoj-Jay Givans placed second at 10.25.
Baker's time is ranked No. 1 on the NCAA Division I West Qualifying List.
Senior Brianna McGhee began the outdoor season with a bang as she recorded the fastest 100-meter hurdle time of the day, taking home first with a time of 13.27. Her time was just .03 seconds off of her school record.
In the men's 200 meters, senior Joshua Washington placed third behind a wind-aided time of 21.16. In his first event of 2016, junior Raymond Bozmans followed at 21.54.
The Horned Frogs will be back in action on Saturday, March 26, as they head to San Antonio for the UTSA Invitational.
