The Opponent
UNLV comes into Friday night with a 3-1 overall record after defeating Northern Arizona in its last outing, 110-71. The Runnin' Rebels, who have won three-straight, were carried by Jalen Poyser's 17-point outing as six UNLV players scored in double-figures.
On the season, Poyser is averaging 17.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds, while Christian Jones follows at 14.0 points per contest and 7.0 rebounds.
The Series
TCU and UNLV will meet for the 21st time in program history Friday night. The Runnin' Rebels lead the all-time series at 17-3, but the Purple and White won the last meeting between the two programs in 2012, 102-97, in overtime. TCU's last win in Las Vegas came during the 1999 campaign when the Frogs defeated UNLV, 76-72.
A Familiar Face
TCU assistant coach Ryan Miller came to Fort Worth this off-season following two season's in Vegas where he was instrumental in helping the Rebels land the nation's No. 11 and No. 5 ranked recruiting classes. Miller was an associate head coach at UNLV.
It's A Start
By defeating Illinois State Monday night, head coach Jamie Dixon became the first first-year head coach in program history to start his career with a 4-0 record. Billy Tubbs came up one game short in 1994-95, opening his coaching career in Fort Worth with a 3-0 mark before falling at Virginia Tech.
Rebounding Machine
TCU out-rebounded Illinois State in its last outing, 37-28, marking the fourth-straight game in which the Horned Frogs have out-rebounded their opponent. In the last two years, TCU is 13-3 overall when out-rebounding its opponent. When broken down even further, head coach Jamie Dixon is now 269-50 overall as a head coach when his team out-boards the opposition. He was 17-4 last season at Pitt.
Point A Minute
Junior Vladimir Brodziansky scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, including 10-of-13 from the charity stripe against Illinois State. Even more impressive though is that the junior did it in only 24 minutes of action. Brodziansky had a stretch during the second half in which he scored 11-straight.
Williams Returns To Form
In his first start of the season, Kenrich Williams made the most of his time on the court, posting his third double-double of his career with 13 points and 10 boards against Illinois State. Williams, who a game earlier played in an actual game for the first time in 618 days, also posted three assists and two assists in the win. When the junior recorded double-figures in rebounds during his career, TCU is 4-0. When he has posted a double-double in a game, the Frogs are also unbeaten at 3-0.
Numbers Tell The Story
With an average of 20 assists per game, TCU currently ranks No. 15 in the NCAA in assists per game. Even more impressive though is that the Frogs rank No. 11 nationally in steals per game at 10.5 after the first four contests. Individually, Jaylen Fisher currently ranks fourth among all freshmen nationally in total assists with 24. He also ranks No. 4 among all freshmen in the NCAA in assists per game with 6.0. Overall, he ranks No. 29 nationally in total assists and No. 75 in steals.
November Numbers
TCU improved to 42-16 during the month of November since 2008 with its 80-71 win over Illinois State. Jamie Dixon is now 74-6 during the month of November as a head coach.
