Goertzen, a native of Woodbury, Minn., took home a bronze medal at the Big 12 Cross Country Championship in Waco on Saturday. The sophomore finished the 6,000-meter race with a career-best time of 20:35.1. Goertzen was just three seconds behind West Virginia's Jillian Forsey in second place and only 16 seconds behind first.
Goertzen's third-place finish marked the best for TCU in its five-year Big 12 history and the first All-Big 12 honor since Agnes Kemboi placed 12th in 2012. Goertzen's time also marked the fourth-best in TCU history since 2000.
Goertzen and the Horned Frogs will return to the course on Friday, Nov. 11, for the NCAA Regional meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
Hofer, a native of Farmington, Conn., made four game-preserving saves against Texas after coming into the game in the 21st minute. Hofer's saves in over 69 minutes allowed TCU to hold off the Longhorns for a 3-2 victory in front of 2,667 fans, the third-largest crowd in program history.
Up next, TCU (10-5-2, 2-5-1 Big 12) will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and will face No. 2 seed Kansas at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Kansas City.
