
Rifle Heads To Alaska For Two Matches

FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team will look to build off a solid opening weekend when they head to Fairbanks, Alaska for a pair of matches this weekend. The Horned Frogs will face off against Alaska and Air Force.
TCU will take part in a triangular meet Saturday when it shoots against Air Force and Alaska. Monday's match will be a dual between Air Force and TCU.
In its first outing of the season, the Horned Frogs tied a school record set in 2012 with a 4,718. TCU turned in a 2,378, a mark that is second-highest in program history, in air rifle, while also shooting a 2,340 in smallbore en route to the nation's top aggregate score so far this season.
Rachel Garner and Mindy Miles led the way in air rifle with identical scores of 597. The score is tops in the NCAA this season. Nicole Hankey pitched in a 593, a mark that is tied for fifth best in the nation.
In the smallbore discipline, TCU fired three of the top seven scores in the country. Freshman Casey Lutz led the way with a personal-best 587. Garner and Ariana Grabowski turned in a score of 585.
Both Air Force and Alaska will be shooting in its first matches of the season.
Air Force returns seven shooters from a year ago, while it welcomes three newcomers this season. The Falcons enter the match ranked tied for seventh nationally.
Alaska returns six team members from last year's squad in addition to welcoming four newcomers. The Nanooks enter the weekend ranked sixth nationally.
