The Opponent
Texas comes into Tuesday night with a 12-7 overall record, including a 3-3 mark in conference play after falling to No. 3 Kansas in its last outing, 76-67. Against the Jayhawks, Connor Lammert tallied 15 points, which included a 5-for-7 showing from long distance. Isaiah Taylor was also in double-figures, scoring 13 points on 6-of-11 from the floor, while recording five assists in the loss.
On the season, Texas, who is 9-1 at home this year, has been led by Taylor. The junior is averaging 16.3 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the floor. He has also totaled 4.7 assists per contest. Javan Felix has also been solid, averaging 11.2 points per game and 2.1 assists.
The Series
TCU and Texas will meet for the 170th time on the hardwood, which ranks No. 4 on the Frogs' list of longest all-time series. The Longhorns own a 106-63 series lead, but fell to TCU earlier this month, 58-57. The Purple and White's last win in Austin came in a 70-54 victory during the 1987 season.
Stealing The Rock
Sophomore Malique Trent made his return to the TCU lineup against Iowa State and didn't disappoint, recording five steals. With his five steals, Trent posted the most steals in a single-game since former all-conference honoree Kyan Anderson swiped five at Tulsa in 2012.
He's Heating Up
Chauncey Collins has begun to make his mark as of late, scoring the basketball from all over the court. The sophomore, who has scored in double-figures in six out of the seven league games, which includes games of 20 versus West Virginia and 19 against Texas Tech, has hit three or more three's in four out of the seven games.
In the four games against league foes ranked in the top-25, Collins is averaging 14.0 points per game and 3.0 assists per contest. He is also shooting 44 percent from behind the arc in the four outings.
Williams Making His Mark
Junior Michael Williams, who has started 13-straight games as the Frogs' point guard, ranks second in assists-to-turnover ratio during league play, averaging 2.8 in conference games. In the last four games alone against No. 19 Iowa State, No. 22 Baylor, No. 1 Kansas and Texas Tech, Williams has only had four turnovers, while tallying 17 assists.
Finding The Ball
Heading into the Iowa State game, junior Karviar Shepherd needed only one more rebound to total 500 boards for his three-year career. The Dallas native, who now has 508 for his career, has awhile before he cracks the program's top-10 though as he trails former Frog Bingo Merriex (2000-03), who currently ranks No. 10 all-time in program history, by 154 rebounds heading into Tuesday.
Shepherd has posted the most rebounds for a career among any players in the last six years. J.R. Cadot recorded 424 boards from 2010 through the 2012 season.
Guarding The Rock
TCU is a perfect 6-0 this season when holding its opponent to under 40 percent from the field. The Horned Frogs limited Texas to only 37.1 percent from the floor, including only 14.3 percent from behind the arc, in its last home win. By defeating UT, the Frogs also held their fifth opponent this season to 59 points or less.
In the last two season's against league foes, TCU has now held six opponents to under 60 points. The Frogs' only loss during the six games came in a 58-53 setback at K-State last January.
Close Calls
In all but four of TCU's 10 losses this season, the Frogs have either led or trailed by only single digits in the final six minutes of the contest. Against Texas Tech, the Frogs led by one with 3:02 showing on the clock. Against West Virginia, TCU led by one with 5:56 remaining in the game. Against Rhode Island, the Purple and White took a two-point lead with 2:16 left to go. The Frogs also cut it to three against South Dakota State with 3:30 showing on the clock in the second half. The Purple and White closed within seven in the final seconds at No. 1 Kansas. The only time TCU didn't either lead or trail by single digits in the final couple of minutes came at Baylor, at Oklahoma State, at Washington and versus Iowa State at home.
