Rifle Kicks Off Spring In Style

FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team didn't display any rust from the midseason break as it fired a 4,703 to rout Ohio State Sunday afternoon. With the win, TCU improves to 9-0 this season.
The 4,703 ties for the fourth-best performance in program history. It's the second time this year the Frogs have fired a top-5 program record. It marks the third time this season the Horned Frogs have surpassed the 4,700 plateau.
Rachel Garner led all shooters with an aggregate score of 1,181, tying her personal best. Nicole Hankey turned in a record performance on the range as she fired a personal best 1,179 aggregate score.
TCU put together a dominating performance in air rifle, shooting a team score of 2,377. That mark is the second-highest score in program history. The top two air rifle scores in school history have come this season, while three of the top five have taken place in 2015-16.
Mindy Miles' impressive sophomore campaign continued as she led all shooters with a 597. Hankey turned in a personal best 596, while Garner tied her personal best with a 592. Sally Li rounded out TCU's dominating performance with a 592.
In smallbore, TCU turned in a team score of 2,326. Miles once again paced all shooters with a 584, but did not factor into the team score.
Garner continued the consistent start to her career, shooting a 583. She has shot 580 or better in all nine matches this season. Hankey tied her personal best with a 583 followed closely by Sally Li's 582. Rounding out the counters was Hannah Black, who fired a 578.
Ohio State turned in a team score of 4,666 after shooting a 2,313 in smallbore and a 2,353 in air rifle. Remington Lyman was the Buckeyes' top shooter in smallbore with a 582, while Anthony Cuozzo shot a 590 to pace Ohio State in air rifle.
TCU returns to the rifle range at Murray State on Jan. 23.
