Head Coach Raegan Pebley
Opening comments:
"Anytime you can get a win in the Big 12 is awesome and then when you can get a sweep is even better. We had to work really hard and I was worried a little bit about their legs coming into this game, but they showed a lot of toughness. We had to rebuild our identity and find our mojo through work ethic. Them handling school being back in session, tough practices, and really focusing in on what needed to get done today showed a lot of maturity and growth on our team."
On the game as a whole:
"Possession by possession how did we play, what did our good streaks look like and how did those come about, what were the times we didn't do so well. I didn't feel like the fourth quarter we were at our best defensively, and that's where we put a lot of people on the foul line. Like I said, the Big 12 is a grind, and every game is a battle. I think everyone can beat everyone and everyone can lose to everyone, so you have to come prepared every single game because it's not forgiving. You've got to be ready. So if it can turn into a 21 point lead, awesome, but we're just going to take the wins when we can."
On practice leading up to the game:
"We didn't have a dramatic change in our practice structure, we always do a lot of skill development and just keep developing their individual habits and confidence levels. I just felt like in practice there was a strong focus in making sure we had balance our in our scoring, recognizing when our posts were open and recognizing what a resource that is for us, but not forcing things. We have a great resource with our perimeter scoring, we've got great three point shooters, we've got a great midrange player, and finding ways to set each other up for success and felt like there was great IQ that happened. I felt like today we showed a more physical toughness and we were ready for that."
On a highlight of the game:
"I think we started (the second half) with 10 consecutive defensive stops, and that was so crucial, that was a key stretch of the game."
On the team:
"An identity of our team that I feel like we're developing is a confidence to win at different speeds. There's different moments in the game where we can play faster but others that we need to slow it down."
On Zahna Medley:
"Her efficiency is really potent. She doesn't waste posessions, she doesn't take bad shots. What we love about her is her growth in her leadership and her growth in her defense. Her off ball defense continues to get better and better. She's communicating. Zahna does not take practices off. She doesn't. Every practice she comes with a high standard herself and she holds everyone else accountable to that. Those type of traits are making her a great senior leader for us."
Senior Veja Hamilton
On the game:
"We didn't want to rely on three point shooting so much. We've had really good practices leading up to this game and we were just able to continue to execute like we were in practice."
On the game:
"We have a set game plan and the coaches do a really good job of making sure we stick to it to the best of our abilities and I think we did that today."
On Zahna Medley:
"Z and I have really good chemistry, I guess that's just from playing with each other, but she has a lot of confidence in me and I have a lot of confidence in her that she'll find us when we're open and we'll hit the shots for her."
Senior Zahna Medley
On being 3rd in TCU's all time assists:
"It's definitely exciting but it wouldn't be possible if my teammates didn't make the shots, so I'm just trying to find when they're open and give them the ball, and I have confidence they'll make shots."
Texas Tech Head Coach Candi Whitaker
Opening Statement:
"I felt like we were getting good shots at times and just weren't getting them to go [in]. [TCU was] obviously making plays and getting it inside, and they went on a run that we didn't counter."
On transitions:
"[TCU] pounded it inside. They had some good transition defense. There were a lot of ways they got points in the paint."
On TCU's offense:
"I thought they did a good job of getting it inside and having multiple people hitting shots. We definitely did a good job of taking their three away. I think it came down to us not putting the ball in the hole."
