TCU Finishes Second at Big 12 Championship

SAN ANTONIO -- Kortnie Maxoutopoulis carded a career-best 68 to lead a TCU final-round surge on Sunday that saw the Horned Frogs finish second at the Big 12 Championship.
TCU's even-par 288 was the best round of the day. The Horned Frogs have now finished first or second in 14 of their last 18 conference tournaments covering four different leagues (WAC, Conference USA, Mountain West and Big 12).
With a 15-over 879, the Horned Frogs were 12 shots behind Baylor.
Maxoutopoulis finished third with a 2-under 214, just two strokes behind leaders Kenzie Neisen of Oklahoma State and Baylor's Laura Lonardi. It was the third time in the last four tournaments that Maxoutopoulis recorded the best finish of her three-year TCU career.
A senior from Pleasanton, Calif., Maxoutopoulis birdied three of her opening six holes. Her four birdies on the day came in a nine-hole stretch spanning the front and back nines.
Maxoutopoulis had the highest finish by a Horned Frog at a conference tournament since Sanna Nuutinen won the 2012 Mountain West championship.
Emmy Martin and Alexandra Bonetti contributed a 72 and 73, respectively, for the Horned Frogs. It was their best rounds of the tournament.
Martin birdied two of her opening three holes and was 2 under on the front nine. She finished with three birdies on the day.
Bonetti had a birdie and shot par on 15 holes.
Kelly McGovern tied for 17th with a 5-over 221. She birdied hole No. 17 en route to a 75.
Chaney Uhles birdied her opening two holes on the back nine.
TCU will learn Monday at 6 p.m. CDT on the Golf Channel if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals. The Horned Frogs have reached the postseason in 18 of the last 19 seasons.
